Fort Smith is a program of legacy with roots back to 1958 and the Meyer’s Mountain Men of Austin, Texas created by Mr. Bob Meyer. Bob is the company’s consulting advisor. Having spent 44 years creating and running this business, Bob produced America’s Finest High Adventure Western Camping trips. He has now helped recreate his remarkable legacy of training and inspiring young men through advising the Fort Smith Mountain Men in all aspects of the business.

Fort Smith holds membership in the following organizations:

We travel in a factory customized bus and pickup truck from the Lone Star State on varying routes from 7 to 28 day trips up north to camp in some of the most beautiful, scenic and majestic areas in the western United States. We offer boys an opportunity to experience first hand, the magnificence and beauty of God’s handiwork through being in nature each and every day.

Along our way, we introduce leadership concepts that help a young guy take a look at himself and his life in an unhurried and relaxed fashion outdoors. Boys stay excited and look forward to the next day because we see and do something different every day. Unlike resident camps where a boy knows the entire routine in the first 48 hours, Fort Smith offers incredible excitement and anticipation through travel which provides a constant variety and contrast making camp more fun for everyone !

That’s the name of the game, FUN and that’s what Fort Smith Mountain Men is all about – Adventures Unlimited, Leadership and FUN ! Everyday is a new and exciting adventure packed with the fun of fishing, hiking, exploring, camping, stargazing, camaraderie and discussions until we fall asleep around the campfire. Everything we do is safe and wholesome.

It is natural that your young man will learn about history of the West, plants, animals, astronomy, geology and ecology due to the staff’s keen interest and expertise in these fields. A host of other skills will be introduced and learned which will benefit boys the rest of their lives. Boy Scouts are encouraged to work on advancements by earning merit badges during the trips.

The overall goal of the trips are for boys to experience an increased appreciation for the outdoors, an increase in self confidence, and a heightened sense of respect for self and others. It’s fun, it’s educational and it’s exciting ! It’s the Fort Smith Mountain Men!!!!

Fort Smith is dedicated to helping boys realize their innate value as individual persons through experiencing the outdoors in a unique way. We are about helping boys go to another level in exploring themselves and the world around them in a safe, relaxed and fun way. We are about safety and a wholesome environment.

From cooking hot meals out of doors to exploring the West to storytelling around a campfire, all we do and say is intended to build boys up and help them enjoy who they are. This is not a program for troubled youth. It is a program for boys who would like to experience an adventure and maybe, just maybe, reach for a higher level of who they wish to become.

Above all, it is a program founded on safety, respect and care for the individual boy, wholesome principles, activities and FUN !
